Ternopil is a city and the capital of Ukraine in Ternopil oblast. Located on the banks of the river Seret. A city in which there is a lot of interesting monuments and urban pond.

Outline historical

Founded in 1540 the Ruthenian Voivodeship of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and to Polish and cutting time (1772) it remained within the borders of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In the years 1772–1809 and 1815–1918, the city was within the borders of Austria and Austria-Hungary. From 1918 until 1945 within the limits of the Polish. After the SOVIET aggression on Poland 17 September 1939 occupied by the Red Army (to June 1941) and anektowany by the Soviet Union. After the attack of Nazi Germany on the SOVIET UNION from June 1941 until 1944 under occupation of Nazi Germany (from 1 August 1941 in Tarnów). From 16 August 1945 until 1991 within the limits of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. From 1991 It is the capital of Ukraine.

The origin of the name

There are several versions about the city's origins. The first version is the scientific. The city was founded in the Republic of Poland on the basis of the privileges of the Kings. In those times usually the founder of the city was called in his name. Ternopil was founded on indisputable number one crime Lord and distinguished husband Of Jan of Tarnów, so the name of the town comes from the names of the magnates of Tarnowskie Góry, and from the Greek abbreviation pol from the polis that is “city”.

Another version is like a town, where the city was founded was called “Tarnopolliam”. The name comes from the Polish word tarnina, West Pomeranian Voivodeship (in Ukrainian “ter((e))n”). In Ukrainian transcription appears as a version of the Ternopollia- “Ternowe field” (Tarninowe field) from which the modern name of the city may be derived.

What to see

There are a lot of monuments: the largest wojątkowością City – this is a pond created by man, very nice, until you want to take a walk along the coast, both day and evening, park and the sea wall is clean and well maintained.

Built between 1540-1548, on the left bank of the Seret River in the Sopilcze for the protection of these units-eastern borders of the Republic of Poland from attacks of the Crimean Tatars. Sometimes life is so, that “Gray” the darmocha is simply essential, and just then, with faith in the miracle, prejudice to the ball (Download. rus. “Shar” – kula ), to carry a hand after the ball, preparing in advance request. It is said that “Gray” satisfies dreams and that no “Gray” It is not possible to comply with the. Mostly to “the monument” come students during a seminar on-so it confirms, that ball has a magic power…
